Political Party Funding act
South Africa’s Political Party Funding Act is a law that regulates the public and private funding of political parties to improve transparency and accountability in government.
This Act will soon be amended to criminalise donations to political parties in the expectation of access to procurement tenders or contracts.
Section 10 of the Act now makes it an offence for members to:
give or receive a donation for any reason other than party political reasons
receive a donation that is not on behalf of a party
Section 8 of the Act makes it an offence for members to:
- receive donations from a prohibited source.
