The book seeks to extend the understanding of all these factors, and the great possibilities and enormous challenges facing the young generation. It proceeds from the understanding that young people are active agents in the development process, in as much as they were important catalysts durıng various turning points in the country's history. It highlights some of the social circumstances and cleavages that arise from South Africa's historical and current experiences.

The Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI) has developed a Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning framework against which data on key indicators is collected to determine how the intervention is performing against its objectives. This data is consolidated in a publicly available dashboard to improve transparency, enable learning and support continuous improvement of interventions.
